Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLAFUR (OLI) MELSTED Oli passed away at Concordia Hospital on June 5, 2000 surrounded by the love of his children. Oli was born on March 5, 1939 to Laugi and Lina Melsted. He will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by his children, Richard and Noreen, and their children, Cassandra and Jennifer; Kimberly and Micky Sawchuk, and their children, Joshua and Kara; Melanie; Crystal and Shawn Veilleux, and their children, Anthony and Layton. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Disa (John), Runa (Lou), Laugi (Betty), Axel (Elanor), Albina (Douglas), Hjalti (Julie), Arni (Lorraine), Fjola (Allison) brother-in-law Graham; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Laugi (1986), Lina (1999), and dear sister Kristine (1999). Oli was born in Arnes and enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in a large loving family, hunting with his father and brothers, fishing with his father and working on the family farm. He later moved to Selkirk and worked for a number of years at Robertsons Furniture. He moved to Abbotsford, B.C. and worked for Lou Isfeld Lincoln Mercury until his illness. Next to his family, his greatest passion in life was golfing. He made many good friends through golfing and enjoyed many games with his son, Richie, and brother, Hjalti. He was a devoted son to his parents and was especially close to his mother in her final years. He was very proud of all his children and grandchildren. His great sense of humour and compassionate heart will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gimli Funeral Chapel with Pastor Neill Von Gunton officiating. Interment to follow at Arnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire may make donations to a charity of their choice. I am standing here, feeling lost and alone. Then a feeling comes over me. I sense your presence, like a whisper in the breeze. It surrounds me, touches me, comforts me. I can hear your laughter in the songs of the birds, and I feel a rush of joy. I can see your beautiful smile in the sunrise, and it warms me, fills me with love. I close my eyes, and I feel your gentle touch on my shoulder. Peace flows through me, for I know I will never be alone. I love you, Daddy. Kimberly Richard Crystal Melanie Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
